Neither of these conditions makes for safe driving, so it is vital that our cars be the safest they can be. One of the ways we measure safety are the rankings provided by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The World Car of the Year is an extremely prestigious award. 2011 competitors included the Audi A8, BMW 5 Series and the Porsche Cayenne. So how is it that the little eco-friendly Nissan Leaf took 1st? Because it’s an amazing feat of design mixed with innovative technologies. Nissan Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn weighed in on the decision, stating that  the Leaf’s “zero-emission mobility… its driving performance, quietness and superb handling” were all aiding factors. Lucky for Nissan Chicago shoppers, the Leaf is sprouting a lot closer to home.
