Residents of the Chicagoland area know that they are only two seasons in Chicago: winter and construction. Neither of these conditions makes for safe driving, so it is vital that our cars be the safest they can be. One of the ways we measure safety are the rankings provided by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Fortunately for Chicago Nissan Leaf shoppers, the Leaf was named a Top Safety Pick for 2011. Not only that, but it is the first electric vehicle (EV) to be awarded this title.

Leafs to Sprout In More Places Around the U.S.

The World Car of the Year is an extremely prestigious award. 2011 competitors included the Audi A8, BMW 5 Series and the Porsche Cayenne. So how is it that the little eco-friendly Nissan Leaf took 1st? Because it’s an amazing feat of design mixed with innovative technologies. Nissan Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn weighed in on the decision, stating that  the Leaf’s “zero-emission mobility… its driving performance, quietness and superb handling” were all aiding factors. Going green has been on the minds of everyone as Americans battle through the economic downturn.
